GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — As of midnight on Oct. 1, Michigan lawmakers have officially missed their deadline to pass the annual state budget.

And while much of the conversation has surrounded a potential government shutdown without continued funding, Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer preemptively struck a different tone Tuesday afternoon.

Whitmer had asserted that, come Wednesday, government operations would continue.
