KALAMAZOO, MI — Dan and Holly Carmichael shared one of their first dates at the Kalamazoo State Theatre, taking in a Modest Mouse concert.

Fast forward 18 years and the married couple has taken ownership of the historic, 98-year-old theater at 404 S. Burdick St. in downtown Kalamazoo.

The couple, co-founders of Lead Balloon Productions , became the third owners of the venue on Monday, Sept. 29, having purchased it from the Hinman Co. They announced the sale Tuesday morning at news conference at the theater.

The price of the sale, which includes the recently-closed Harvey’s on the Mall next door at 416 S. Burdick St., was not disclosed.
