On a sunny September afternoon in downtown Oklahoma City , forklifts zip through hauling huge bundles of hay bales, staffers and volunteers flit around adding mums and gourds to dozens of carefully devised displays, and enormous boxes of pumpkins are scattered across the Myriad Botanical Gardens ' Children's Garden, waiting to turn into an autumnal wonderland.

As preparations are underway for the popular Pumpkinville fall festival , many of the new attractions — from a roaming bison and marauding dinosaurs to creeping spiders and a rocket readying for lift-off — look like they belong in a museum.

That's as it should be, since the Myriad Gardens’ signature fall festival is returning Oct. 3-26 with the new theme "The Museum of Pumpkinville."
