NEWBURY, Vt. (ABC22/FOX44) - A 45-year-old man was taken into custody after jumping into the Connecticut River to evade arrest Sunday.

Troopers responded to a wanted person report on US Route 5 at about 12:18 p.m. Authorities say they located transient man Jamie Woodman at the CT River shoreline.

Woodman had a New Hampshire Extraditable Warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, officers discovered. While attempting to arrest him, Woodman jumped.

He reportedly swam down the river, between Vermont and New Hampshire over the course of several hours. After making a perimeter along the river, authorities were able to bring Woodman into custody.
