The Met Office has named its first storm of the season Amy bringing gusts of more than 80mph and heavy rain.
It comes after a Category 3 storm, Hurricane Humberto , interacted with Storm Imelda over the Atlantic and put the Caribbean, US East Coast and Bermuda on high alert. Storm Imelda was blamed for two deaths in Cuba after a landslide flattened homes.
The Met Office has issued several weather warnings as Storm Amy "develop[s] rapidly" as it nears the UK, and is expected to make landfall on Friday. It will bring "very strong winds and heavy rain" to "northern and western areas" of the UK, the forecaster added. 12:15 Tim Hanlon
