GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer says she has signed a continuation budget to keep the state government open as legislators continue to work on a full budget.
The new fiscal year started Wednesday without a spending plan — though Whitmer and leaders of the Republican-controlled House and Democrat-controlled Senate announced last week they had reached a deal.
In the meantime, leaders promised the government would not shut down. According to a report from the Detroit News, lawmakers early Wednesday morning approved a bill to fund the state government for one week. Whitmer signed the bill, her office confirmed in a release.
