DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) -- It's happened now 21 times in U.S. History: The federal government is shutdown.
While the impacts will be felt nationally, they'll also be felt here at home.
Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, for example, employs just south of 40,000 people -- including military personnel, contractors and civilian workers -- many of whom may now have to work without pay.
While most military operations and veteran benefits will continue to be funded, pay for military and civilian personnel will be delayed.
There is also the possibility that these individuals could be furloughed and without a job to come back to once the shutdown ends.
The department of Veteran Affairs Regional offices will be closed in the meantime; however, they expect that 97 percent of staff will report to work
