An emergency lockdown ordered at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst Tuesday morning in Burlington County, New Jersey, was prompted by a civilian employee who made a false report of an active shooter.
Malika Brittingham, who works for the U.S. Navy, was charged with knowingly conveying false and misleading information related to the use of firearms at a federal facility, according to a federal criminal complaint.
In a statement issued shortly after noon, base officials said they had received reports of an active shooter at 10:58 a.m. However, “no active shooter threat was substantiated.”
One hour after the first report, base officials said in a Facebook post , “ALL CLEAR. All personnel are to resume normal operations.”
