RODANTHE, N.C. — Another unoccupied house at 46203 Tower Circle Road collapsed into the Atlantic Ocean overnight Tuesday, officials said, making it the sixth house to fall along the Outer Banks in the past 24 hours.

The collapse follows five other homes in Buxton that fell earlier Tuesday as a result of strong surf from Hurricane Humberto and Hurricane Imelda, bringing dangerous waves to the southeast coast. All six homes were unoccupied at the time of the collapses.

The recent series adds to an already large tally, marking the 13th through 17th house collapses along the Outer Banks over the past five years. The most recent previous collapse occurred just two weeks ago.

The earlier five houses were located at 46001 Cottage Avenue, 46002 Cottage Avenue, 46007 Cottage Avenue, 46209 Tower
