The Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback has been elevated to starter ahead of veteran Joe Flacco for Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings in London, the team announced Wednesday.
The Browns are 1-3 and haven’t hit the 20-point mark in any of their games this season.
Flacco has completed 58.1 per cent of his passes for 815 yards with two touchdowns and six interceptions.
Gabriel has entered two games in relief and thrown one touchdown pass.
The Browns picked the Oregon product in the third round (94th overall) of this year’s NFL Draft.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports Flacco will be the backup, while rookie Shedeur Sanders will be the emergency No. 3.
