BEAUMONT, Texas — Coffee prices at Southeast Texas cafes are climbing as tariffs on Brazilian imports force business owners to pass increased costs on to customers.
Hard Bean Coffee and Bistro in Beaumont saw the price of Brazilian coffee beans jump from $35 to $55 per bag overnight, according to owner Diane Martin. The increase has led to customers paying between 20 cents and a dollar more per cup.
"If you were getting a bag of Brazil, you went from 35 dollars a bag to 55 dollars a bag, overnight," Martin said.
The price surge stems from a 50% tariff on Brazilian coffee imposed by President Donald Trump, which raised import costs by approximately 20%, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The impact extends beyond Brazil, affecting the global coffee market.
