MUNCIE, IN — The Delaware County Highway Department and the Muncie Street Department will work together on a "temporary paving project" to improve the condition of East McGalliard Road.

Mayor Dan Ridenour and the Delaware County commissioners — Stephen Brand, Shannon Henry and Sherry Riggin — made that announcement on Tuesday, Sept. 30.

"McGalliard Road is one of the most heavily traveled corridors in our county, and its current surface conditions have created challenges for residents, commuters and businesses alike," the officials said in a news release. "While a complete reconstruction of this roadway is already funded and scheduled for 2027, we also recognize that our citizens cannot wait that long for relief. That is why we are moving forward with this temporary overlay project now."
