Busy Northwest Cornell Road between Westover Street and 53rd Avenue will close Saturday, Oct. 4 so crews can repair roadway sinking and a broken underground pipe.

The Portland Bureau of Transportation announced the closure late last week and will work with contractors to remove the broken pipe and stabilize an 80-year-old basalt rock retaining wall that has been damaged. The closure will also allow for repaving the roadway following the pipe repair.

The closure will be during all hours and days beginning Saturday and applies to all users - drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists. Travelers should use alternate routes including Northwest Skyline Boulevard, Thompson Road, and West Burnside Street.
