INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WIS) - Former South Carolina State star and NFL All-Pro linebacker Shaquille Leonard has announced his retirement.

The Indianapolis Colts said in a statement Wednesday that Leonard will retire as a Colt at halftime of Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

A native of Lake View, Leonard was a defensive force at South Carolina State, being named the MEAC Defensive Player of the Year in both 2016 and 2017.

He was then drafted 36th overall by the Colts in the 2018 NFL Draft. He was named the 2018 AP Defensive Rookie of the Year, was a three-time AP All-Pro and a three-time Pro Bowler during his time in Indianapolis.

The Colts released Leonard in 2023. He then signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he played his final NFL game later in the 2023-24 season.
