KEWANEE, Ill. (KWQC) - A driver crashed into a viaduct after leading officers on two separate police chases, officers say.

Police did a welfare check on a driver and attempted a traffic stop at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday in the 800 block of Northeast Street, according to a media release from Kewanee police.

Police said the driver sped off. Officers briefly chased the car then stopped.

At 9:44 p.m. officers saw the same vehicle back in Kewanee. Police said officers again tried to stop the vehicle but it fled.

Police again briefly chased the car then stopped.

About three minutes later, officers got a report that a vehicle had crashed into a viaduct on Northeast Street.

The driver, a man, was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials said he was the only person in the vehicle.
