JEFFERSON CITY, Mo - The Missouri Department of Transportation is reminding motorists to be aware of deer through October and November.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Show-Me State consistently ranks between 10th and 15th in the nation in deer-vehicle collisions each year. Last year there were 2,952 crashes with deer, resulting in four deaths and 420 injuries.
Drivers are advised to always wear their seat belt, control their speed, don't swerve to avoid hitting a deer, and don't follow too closely. Motorists can also report deer or other animal carcasses in the road by calling 888-275-6636.
