Six undertrial prisoners escaped from Dharmanagar Sub-Jail at Kalikapur under North district in the early hours of Wednesday, October 1.
Latest reports state that among the escapees, one, identified as Abdul Pata of Assam, has been re-arrested.
As per preliminary reports, the jailbreak occurred around 6 a.m. shortly after the inmates were released from their cells for routine morning activities such as work and breakfast.
According to official sources, the prisoners suddenly launched a violent attack on the jail security staff using improvised weapons and made their way out of the facility.
In the course of the scuffle, a jail official, identified as Bedu Mia, sustained injuries and was rushed to Dharmanagar District Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
