MADISON, Wis. -- Dane County Executive Melissa Agard will present a plan to the County Board later this month to freeze hiring amid the ongoing government shutdown.
Agard said uncertainty from the federal government is making it hard to plan out the county's budget for next year. The county faces a $31 million deficit as it begins the budgeting process.
"The political chaos in Washington has thrown a cloud of uncertainty over our local budget," Agard said. "We cannot ignore the risk of disrupted federal funding and the ripple effects that will be felt in our community."
