CLEVELAND -- Colt Keith was spotted at Progressive Field on Wednesday, several hours before the start of Game 2 of the Wild Card Series, tossing a football. That was a good sign.
An even better sign came when he picked up a baseball and appeared to be throwing relatively normally.
Keith has been on the injured list since Sept. 19 with right rib cage inflammation. When he last spoke with reporters, he said the injury made it difficult to rotate his upper body without pain. Without that rotation, swinging and throwing were impossible.
So it was an important step for him to start throwing and, behind the scenes, hitting off a tee.
Keith is not active for the Wild Card Series in Cleveland, but his presence suggests that an activation for a potential ALDS remains possible.
