A vacant home undergoing renovations was destroyed by a fire in the early morning hours Tuesday in New Cumberland that injured one firefighter.

Crews responded at 2:09 a.m. to the 1200 block of Allen Street and remained there until around 4:20 a.m.

One fire fighter had minor injuries. Photos posted by Fairview Township Fire Department showed flames bursting out of the roof.

On Wednesday, the smell of smoke lingered, although windows had been boarded up. The decimated roof gave a birdseye view into the home.

One neighbor said her family was awakened by a neighbor knocking on their door, telling them to get out of their house.

“It was very disturbing. I was sound asleep,” she said.

The owners of the destroyed home had moved out two years ago, she said. The homeowners were renovating it
