CLEVELAND, Ohio — Northeast Ohio saw far less rain in September than it typically does, capping a notably dry month at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.

Just 0.75 inches of rain fell at Hopkins in September 2025, compared with a normal of 3.93 inches, according to National Weather Service records . That makes this past month the second-driest September in Cleveland since 1938, when record-keeping was moved to the airport.

The only drier September was in 1964, when 0.74 inches fell, according to historical records .

Despite the parched month, Cleveland’s year-to-date precipitation total stood at 30.72 inches through Sept. 30, only slightly below the normal of 31.07 inches. Heavy rains earlier in the summer helped offset the September shortfall.
