WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- With the government shutdown taking effect, Republican and Democratic leaders have wasted no time pointing the blame at their opposing party.

Politicians in D.C., Maryland and Virginia as well as the Vice President of the United States have released statements or taken to social media to express their frustration of the shutdown.
