DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – More than 150 people died as a result of domestic violence in 2024. That number increased from the previous year.

The Durham Crisis Response Center is honoring those lives during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

One by one, the names of the 75 people who died between October 2024 and October 2025 were read aloud outside the Durham Family Justice Center on Wednesday. Those victims ranged in age from 6 to 79.

Each name represents a family and community shaken by domestic violence.

"It's every age, every gender, every socioeconomic background, every race and so prevalent in our communities," said Shana Carignan, executive director of DCRC. "It's in our neighborhoods, in our churches and our schools."
