COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - The man accused of raping a CSU student is facing new charges after appearing in Recorder’s Court Wednesday morning.

20-year-old Hosni Batebawai is behind bars after allegedly raping a CSU student in the Riverfront parking deck on Friday, September 26.

Initially, Batebawai was arrested on the following charges:

Aggravated Sexual Battery

Aggravated Assault

Rape

Hijacking a motor vehicle in the second degree

The hijacking charge was upgraded to first degree, a charge for aggravated assault with intent to rape was added along with a theft charge in relation to the victim’s vehicle.

According to Columbus State University police, Batebawai tried to put the victim in the trunk of her own car, but was not successful and that’s when he stole the car.
