MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - National Guard troops have arrived in Memphis.
Uniformed troops and vehicles were seen Wednesday at a Memphis Safe Task Force staging area.
Their arrival marks the next step in the Memphis Safe Task Force initiative, which launched Monday with a dozen law enforcement agencies in the city.
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi says 53 people have been arrested in the first 48 hours of the initiative , along with 20 illegal guns taken off the streets.
It’s still unclear how many troops and agents will be in Memphis, where they will be positioned and what exactly they will be doing.
Bondi and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth are traveling to Memphis on Wednesday to meet with federal, state and local law enforcement, along with National Guard troops.
