BLACKSBURG — Virginia Tech’s offensive line didn’t have problems creating running room for tailbacks Terion Stewart and Marcellous Hawkins against North Carolina State last weekend.

Stewart picked up a first down on nearly half of his 15 carries. Both he and Hawkins averaged nearly 12 yards per carry. Only one of their combined 19 rushes was stopped behind the line of scrimmage.

Left tackle Johnny Garrett felt the unit “left a lot out there on the table” and was “nowhere close to what we’re capable of.” Still, it wasn’t too shabby for an offensive line that rolled out its fourth starting lineup combination in five games and led the way for 229 rushing yards against an N.C. State defense that allowed more than 150 rushing yards once in the first four weeks.
