A disgraced ex-Staffordshire Police detective plotted to smuggle drugs into two jails using drones.

Former DC Clare Davenport was a serving officer when she schemed to fly contraband into prisons, along with her husband Peter King and two others.

Colleagues discovered racists messages on her phone as part of an probe into her.

The 50-year-old would have been sacked from the force had she not already retired.

Her crimes can now be reported after two members of the gang - Kent George, aged 63, and Mervyn Foster, aged 46 - were this week convicted of their part in the enterprise at Coventry Crown Court.

The court heard that the drug drop incidents took place throughout 2021 and 2022.
