Rainer Hummel has come to the rescue for the David Secord House in St. Davids.

Hummel, president of Hummel Properties Inc., told councillors at their Sept. 16 committee of the whole meeting he is in talks to buy the historical house and property and begin systematically restoring the building.

“I have made an arrangement with the owners to purchase the house on its own lot and restore the house piecemeal,” said Hummel.

After reviewing the structure with Mark Shoalts, a professional engineer and principal for Shoalts Engineering, Hummel said the priority is to restore the roof.

“There is significant water infiltration (and) there are holes in the roof,” said Hummel. “We are trying to assess what we have to do.”
