TEWKSBURY, Mass. —

Fired Market Basket CEO Arthur T. Demoulas is asking a court to reinstate him at the top of the New England supermarket chain, claiming the board acted unlawfully.

The board voted to remove Demoulas last month, after an attempt at mediation fell apart, according to the board. Chief Financial Officer Donald T. Mulligan, who has worked for Market Basket for 42 years, was appointed to fill the role on an interim basis.

Board members accused Demoulas of "exercising his own unfettered discretion" in company decisions while "ignoring and stonewalling" their oversight efforts, according to a complaint filed in a Delaware court . The board asked the court to enter a ruling confirming Demoulas' termination.

According to a spokesperson, Demoulas filed a 94-page response
