LEWISTON, Maine —

A man accused of trying to strangle a 5-year-old child in Peabody, Massachusetts, before stealing the child's mother's car and driving away was arrested in Maine.

The U.S. Marshals Service says Dominque Bailey was arrested in Lewiston on Tuesday morning.

Bailey was wanted on multiple warrants, including one out of Massachusetts, for three counts of assault and battery on a family or household member, and strangulation or suffocation.

At the time investigators say the child was attacked, Bailey was on probation in Maine for robbery. He is now charged with a probation violation in Maine.

Marshals said Wednesday the stolen vehicle was later recovered by the Androscoggin County Sheriff's Department several weeks ago. Because the vehicle was found in Maine, investigators
