OXFORD, Ohio (WXIX) - Residents in Oxford are upset after a park that’s been around for more than two decades is now locked up and off limits to the public.

The city is working on plans to convert the Oxford Skate Park into pickleball courts.

The skatepark remains empty, the gate is padlocked, and the families who enjoy spending time here want the city to put a plan in place now for a new park.

“The skatepark serves our youth and if they take that away, they’re taking something away that creates friendship and belonging for them,” said Oxford resident Janice Bisson. “It’s more than just ramps.”

Bisson and her family are regulars at the Oxford Skate Park.

She says that for many of the kids who visit the skate park, this is their only form of recreation.
