M8 lorry crash caught on camera

The driver who died after his tractor dropped its load of timber onto a major Scots motorway has been named by police. ‌

Tom Meikle, from Carnwath, South Lanarkshire, was driving the tractor along the M77 during rush-hour on Tuesday when the trailer's load of wooden beams suddenly crashed on to the M8 below . ‌

Emergency services attended, but the 61-year-old was tragically pronounced dead at the scene following the incident, which unfolded at around 5.30pm . ‌

Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing. The M8 and M77 were closed, and did not fully reopen until 5.25am on Wednesday.
