CHEMUNG, N.Y. (WENY) -- The New York Attorney General's Office of Special Investigation has opened an investigation into the officer involved shooting death of a Chemung teenager.
As WENY News previously reported, New York State Police say 18-year-old Nathan Novakowski was threatening a woman with a pair of scissors on Rotary Rd. in the Town of Chemung Sunday. Troopers ordered Novakowski to drop the weapon, but police say he did not follow orders and tried to stab the victim. A State Trooper then fired his weapon, fatally striking Novakowski.

The investigation by the Attorney General's Office into the incident is a requirement under New York State law for any officer involved fatal shooting.
