HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- As seasons change and temperatures drop, so does our immunity -- making it easier to get sick.

Dr. Ulysses Wu, an infectious disease doctor at Hartford HealthCare, said that the beginning of fall brings a rise in cases of the common cold, RSV and flu. COVID-19 cases typically peak later, in January and February.

"When everybody goes back to school, people are getting illnesses in school and they're bringing them back," Dr. Wu said.

Dr. Wu recommends simple but effective measures -- like masking, frequent hand washing and vaccinations.

"We do recommends vaccines, because they are safe," Wu said.
