LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Jefferson County Public Schools is changing course on a proposed financial audit. Instead of hiring the firm initially recommended, the district’s superintendent decided to seek competitive proposals.

The decision to withdraw the recommendation came at a specially called school board meeting Tuesday, hours after Superintendent Brian Yearwood publicly outlined the district’s plan for addressing a budget shortfall .

At that earlier news conference, Yearwood stated the district is facing a $188 million deficit. The district intends to slash $132 million from next year’s budget, and states teachers will not be let go.
