SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – For Hispanic immigrants who leave their homes to find a new life in the United States, the definition of family often evolves.

Bonds of community take root when relatives are separated by borders, creating a new extended family not defined by blood.

For Judith and Chuy Garcia, that community in Springfield is what allowed them to build a successful life together in the Ozarks, starting with a chance meeting more than 20 years ago.
