TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - A former state employee is suing the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) after being fired for remarks about Charlie Kirk .
The ACLU of Florida is joining the suit, describing the firing as “unlawful retaliation in violation of her First Amendment right to free speech.”
According to the suit, the former employee was an accomplished biologist who worked for the FWC for over 7 years.
Lawsuit documents reveal that while on vacation, she shared a post about Charlie Kirk’s death to her private Instagram story.
“The post did not condone Mr. Kirk’s killing nor did it call for further violence, rather, it conveyed a satirical indifference — a viewpoint fully covered by the First Amendment,” the ACLU said in a press release.
