STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Gov. Kathy Hochul’s inflation refund checks are being sent out beginning this week to 8.2 million households across New York, including 3.53 million in New York City, officials announced Friday in a press release.

Checks of up to $400 will be hitting mailboxes of eligible New Yorkers throughout October and November. Recipients are not required to sign up or apply. The order in which checks are being mailed will not be based on ZIP code or region.

The initiative, a first-of-its-kind in New York, is part of Hochul’s “ongoing efforts to put more money in New Yorkers’ pockets,” according to the announcement.
