BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ) - Every year, colleges and universities around the country are required to release a report on safety through The Clery Act.
Virginia Tech released its report Wednesday. The 2025 Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act Report reflects statistics from 2024, shedding light on crime numbers including sexual assault, burglaries, theft, alcohol and drug violations and more.
It shows many of those numbers are lower or the same compared to 2022 and 2023. Most notably, rape cases decreased from 19 to 6.
Those numbers are only a fraction of what’s shared in the 196 pages of the entire document. Mark Owczarski, spokesperson for Virginia Tech, urges everyone to read beyond just the statistics.
