ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Times are tough for thousands of federal employees working at the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta.
Some CDC employees received an email in the early morning hours informing them they had been furloughed. The email read in part, “you are being placed in a furlough status effective October 1, 2025. This furlough, i.e., nonduty, nonpay status, is expected to last 30 days or less.”
“The first thing I heard this morning was there is a government shutdown and so I knew immediately I was not going to have a job,” one CDC employee said. “I worry so much about my colleagues and my friends who are a two-parent household and they both work for CDC. They’re the ones I worry about. Or that are single parents and work for the CDC.”
