MOSES LAKE, Wash. -- A report by middle school students claiming they were threatened by a man with a gun has been determined to be false, police said Wednesday.

The students told officers Tuesday that a man had confronted them with a firearm while they were running on a railroad trestle between Milwaukee Avenue and Montlake Park. The report prompted a large-scale law enforcement response from the Milwaukee Police Department and the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.

After finding no evidence at the scene, officers continued investigating and later determined the students’ account was untrue. Police said there is no indication that any crime occurred.
