NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — The Trump administration has blocked $18 billion of transportation funding, impacting New York and New Jersey.
The U.S. Department of Transportation says it's trying to make sure diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives have nothing to do with two major projects, including the Gateway Tunnel between Newark and Manhattan.
The Gateway Tunnel project is well underway, building a new two-track tunnel under the Hudson River and fixing up old tracks. The idea is that this project would greatly improve New Jersey Transit, Amtrak and freight train commerce up and down the northeast train corridor.
