The two defending champions of North American football meet up on Wednesday night, as the Los Angeles Galaxy take on Toluca in the Campeones Cup.

The Campeones Cup was introduced in 2018, pitting the top professional soccer team from Major League Soccer against the best team in from Liga MX in Mexico. The combatants are determined by who wins the previous season’s MLS Cup, as well as the victor from the Campeon de Campeones - which pits the winners of the Apertura and Clausura tournaments in Liga MX.

This year’s teams fighting it out for bragging rights are the L.A. Galaxy and Toluca. The Galaxy won the MLS Cup last year for a record sixth time, defeating the New York Red Bulls in a thrilling match.
