Nuclear power should still be rolled out across Australia following a "renaissance" of the power source in the US, the coalition says.

Opposition energy spokesman Dan Tehan has returned from a trip to the US, where he spoke with experts about how nuclear can be used across the grid, as the coalition looks to finalise its energy policy.

He said nuclear helped the US deal with growing demands of artificial intelligence and other technologies and there was scope for Australia to follow suit.

"As we go forward as a nation, and we look to further electrify our grid, there is no doubt that nuclear can play a part here in Australia," he told ABC Radio.
