MADISON (WKOW) — Wisconsin lawmakers introduced a new bill that could change the state's stance on medical marijuana. Currently illegal, a Republican-backed bill aims to legalize it -- but for tightly-controlled medical use.

"He was going through chemo, my family at that time made the decision to go outside the law to get him marijuana... I firmly believe that it gave him more time," said Sen. Patrick Testin (R-Stevens Point), who authored the bill.

WKOW spoke with Dr. Michael Chen, a UW Health Family Physician, about the bill's potential benefits, including reducing opioid use.
