HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The opening round of the 2025 Lotte Championship teed off Wednesday.

The round started a bit damp and rainy, but it quickly cleared up for some of the LPGA’s best to hit the links.

It was also a chance for Hawaii’s talent to face the daunting course in Ewa Beach. Out of the 120 players in the field, five hail from the islands.

Among them was Punahou sophomore Alexa Takai, who carded a 2-over-par in her first pro tournament.

“It’s not easy to make long ones out here. It’s windy and it’s just not ideal making 20-footers, but yeah, go at a few pins when I can, try to birdie the par 5s, and take advantage of every putt I have,” she said.

Moanalua grad Lani Luafalealo finished one-under par after birdieing on hole 18.
