A new law that took effect on Wednesday aims to make it easier for drivers to get their car back after it's been towed.
The law requires tow companies to accept credit cards as payment and prohibits companies from towing cars from private property unless they’re blocking traffic, fire hydrants or a handicap spot.

Drivers testified in support of these changes during a bill hearing earlier this year.
“For many working-class families, a car is not a luxury, it is a necessity," Jeniffer Perez Caraballo, of Hartford, said. "It determines whether someone can hold a job, access healthcare or have a place to sleep with housing instability, like I was at one point.”
