The State of Connecticut is imposing stricter penalties for street takeovers and reckless driving beginning Oct. 1.

Per the new state law , people who participate in street takeovers, illegal races or demonstrations face fines up to $2,000 and risk a two-year license suspension for a third or subsequent violation.

In addition, the law allows municipalities to destroy seized ATVs and dirt bikes after 90 days.

"Don't come to New Haven. We might pop your tires; you might get arrested. If you're participating, it's also illegal. We have a lot more cameras in the city, the clarity is very good, we can find you,” Christian Bruckhart, public information officer for the New Haven Police Department, said.
