COLUMBIA, S.C. — The fall-like temperatures will stick around for the remainder of the workweek in the Midlands as October kicks off with cooler temperatures, breezy afternoons, and plenty of sunshine .

A high pressure system to the north and a steady northwest breeze will continue to usher in the drier air and cooler temperatures, with afternoon highs staying in the 70s. Rain chances could return through the weekend, but widespread rainfall is not expected.
