Macquarie University has been hit with a warning from SafeWork NSW over its plan to cut more than 60 staff.

The Sydney-based university was issued an “improvement notice” on Wednesday, with the workplace safety regulator finding Macquarie had failed to adhere to agreed health and safety consultation procedures.

Macquarie University has proposed cutting 63 full time equivalent positions across the Faculty of Arts and Faculty of Science and Engineering in an attempt to save $15.5 million, having operated in the red for five of the past six years.
